Eastport, Maine

William Eugene Mullins, born March 1, 1941 in Murfreesboro TN: died June 7, 2023 in Eastport ME:  predeceased by almost all his family including his parents, aunts, and sister Anne Mullins Hogan.

Survived by his wife of not long enough, April Bateman; son Bill (William E, III) and his wife Lydia of Antioch TN, son Braden Fielding, grandsons Andrew Hammitt (Dawn) of Murfreesboro, TN and Eric Gokey (Sonya) of  Murfreesboro TN; daughter Elizabeth Ann Mullins Gamble (James) of Carthage NY and grandchildren  Charles (Stephanie) Gamble of Gainesville Ga, and Callie Gamble of Largo FL; brother Dr. James Gray Mullins (Maria) of Pittsburgh PA.

Bill was a 1959 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Nashville He and April married in 1962 and moved to Atlanta where he attended Georgia Tech. Upon graduation in 1963, they moved to La Crosse WI, and then Baltimore MD. In 1967, they moved back to Nashville where he joined Capitol Engraving Company. In retirement, he consulted with other businesses in the industry.

In 2018 he and April felt called by the small city and moved to Eastport, the last town on the coast of Maine.  A cradle Methodist, and then PCUSA, he was confirmed in the Episcopal denomination, and an active member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served as Sr. Warden, leading the congregation through transition and trial…. It’s what he did best… provide transitional leadership and guidance with wit, grace, and a steady hand.

He is also survived by Tess of the Urban Villa, a most remarkable Aussie doodle who, along with his family and many friends grieve his death, and greatly rejoice that he was a loving and kind brother, friend, husband, father, grandfather, and soon-to-be great-grandfather.

Services will be held at a date to be announced.

Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais, ME.
