Obituary

William Irwin Krider Sr., 85, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Calais Community Hospital. Bill was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, on August 20, 1939, son of Walter and Nellie (Onspaugh) Krider. After graduating from Meadville Area Senior High School in 1956, William demonstrated his love for his country by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as an Automatic Pilot & Compass Repairman. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he married his soulmate, Elizabeth DiStefano. They shared a love that was as enduring as it was inspiring. William's industrious nature was evident in his long career, first working for Norton Co. in Worcester, MA, crafting sandpaper and grinding wheels, and then moving to Cooper, Maine in 1982. In Maine, he committed nearly two decades to the maintenance department at Washington County Technical Vocational Institute. Following his retirement, William continued to serve his community through his work for the Immaculate Conception Church in Calais until his full retirement in 2015. He was not only a Communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church but also a 4th Degree Knight with Council No. 149 Knights of Columbus in Calais. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Krider; and a brother Edward Krider. Surviving are his two children, William Krider Jr. of Cooper, and John Krider and wife Gina of Whitinsville, MA; two sisters, Anna Mae Derby of Cambridge Springs, PA, and Mary Krider-Lindsey of NC; many nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Earl Krider of Meadville, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Roland Berngeh, 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church, 31 Calais Ave, Calais. Burial will follow in Cathance Overlook Cemetery in Cooper. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Knights of Columbus for their tootsie roll drive, 3 Park St., Calais, ME 04619.
