Wilbert Patrick Finnen, 82, also known as "Sunny," passed away on December 10, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Sunny was born on September 20, 1942, in Portland, Maine, to parents Elizabeth (Neptune) and Wilbert D. Finnen. 

After graduating from high school, Sunny served his country with dedication and honor in the U.S. Air Force. His service was just the beginning of a life marked by hard work and commitment. Following his service, Sunny pursued a career as a master electrician, honing his craft in the area he grew up which was the Naples/Bridgeton area, as well as Sipayik & Indian Township areas.

Sunny's heart was not only devoted to his work but also to his love for music. He played the drums with passion and was a cherished member of a travelling band, spreading joy and rhythm wherever he went. After retirement, Sunny relocated to Sipayik, reconnecting with his community and family, and leaving an indelible mark on all those he encountered.

Sunny was predeceased by his parents, his sister Beatrice (Gabriel) Soctomah, his son Daniel Finnen, niece Nancy (Soctomah) Airola, and nephew Harvey Soctomah. He is survived by his granddaughter Dannelle Finnen, nephew Mel Soctomah and wife Joan, nieces Hilda (Soctomah) Lewis, Jane (Soctomah) Taylor, Lena (Soctomah) Jackson, and Fran (Soctomah) Dore, as well as several grand-nieces & nephews, and many great-grand-nieces & nephews. His best friend, Dana Mitchell, also remains to cherish his memory.

The sun may have set on Sunny's life, but his light continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him. His life will be celebrated with a burial service at the Pleasant Point Tribal Cemetery on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 am. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
