Virginia Lou “Jinny” Chaffey, 95, passed away with her daughter by her side on Sunday, September 23, 2023, at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Jinny was born in West Pembroke on August 15, 1928, daughter of Garnet and Pauline (Camick) Hooper.
Jinny graduated from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1946. She worked in the local fish factories and local stores until she married her love, Rev. Roland Chaffey, on July 31, 1949. Jinny worked behind the soda fountain at Rexall Drug Store in Eastport until starting her career with Guilford Industries, where she worked as a spinner for 34 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed spending summers at their camp on Boyden Lake, reading, and boating. She was a member of Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church in Eastport where her husband was minister for 45 years. She enjoyed helping her husband conduct the services and singing anthems every Sunday.
In addition to her parents, Jinny was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rev. Roland Chaffey; and later her companion William “Bob” Flagg and her lifelong friend, Patricia Clark. Surviving are her daughter Tessa Ftorek and husband Stephen of Eastport; two grandchildren, Matthew Raye and wife Allison of Anchorage, AK, and Sarah Raza and husband Salim of Santa Clarita, CA; and five great-grandchildren, Fynn Raye, Cooper Raza, Talon Raye, Camille Raza, and Jace Raza. She also is a survived by special “granddaughters” Jessica Welsh and Karen Flagg and dear friend Greta Renaud.
A Celebration of Jinny’s Life will be held in 2024 at Restlawn Cemetery in Perry.
