Viola Marie Ranalli passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 101. She was born to Charles and Emily Mullen on May 3, 1924, at their home in Pointville, New Jersey. She married the love of her life, Alfred D. Ranalli, on September 19, 1941, the day he was discharged from the U.S. Army. When her husband, known to friends as Fred, was later drafted to serve in Italy during WWII, she faithfully maintained their home and raised their two small children with her characteristic quiet strength. After the war, Viola and Fred welcomed two more children and built a rich and fulfilling life together filled with love, family, and hard work.
Viola devoted herself to maintaining a beautiful home, raising her family, and supporting her husband in running several businesses, most notably Ranalli's New and Used Furniture Store and Mullen and Ranalli House Moving, Inc. She lived her life grounded in faith, love, and service to others. Viola was the ultimate hostess, with a warm and welcoming home open to friends, family, and strangers alike. She often prepared elaborate meals with ease, and there was always a place at her table for unexpected guests. Known to her loved ones as Vi, she carried herself with grace and strength. Fiercely loyal, deeply generous, and unfailingly selfless, she poured her heart into her family and friends. She was a devoted wife and mother who, though sometimes stubborn—a Mullen family trait—had a quick wit, a ready laugh, and a beautiful, gentle smile. To know her was to love her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred; her son Alfred "Freddie" Ranalli; and daughters-in-law Jean Ranalli and Carol Ranalli. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Hogan (Spurgeon) and Rosemary Meadows (Timothy), both of New Jersey, and her son Mark Ranalli (Wesla) of Big Lake Township, Maine, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will hold a graveside service and interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Big Lake Township at a future date to be determined. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
