Viola E. Dwelley

June 11, 1923 — July 23, 2023

Viola E. (White) Dwelley passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Marshall’s Healthcare in Machias.  Viola was born in Weld, Maine on June 11, 1923, the daughter of Coolidge and Eva (Osborn) White.  She celebrated her 100th birthday six weeks ago.

Viola was a life-long resident of Alexander.  She worked many years for Ware Knitters and Hathaway shirt factories in Calais, raked blueberries for many years and made thousands of wreaths.  She loved to make cookies and rolls which her family and church family enjoyed.  Viola was a founding member of the Church of the Open Bible and she also worked as a teacher’s aide for many years.

In addition to her parents, Viola was predeceased by her husband, Everett Dwelley in 1984; her sister Rowena (Everett) Bates; brothers Charlie White and Calvin (Dot) White; son-in-law Dennis Snyder; daughter-in-law Donna (Dwelley) Furlong; and grandson Llewellyn Dwelley Jr.

Surviving are her three children, Llewellyn Dwelley Sr. (Bonnie), Lorna Maxwell (Jim), and Mavis Snyder; grandchildren, Wayne Dwelley (Tammy and her daughter Jordan), June and Jim Maxwell Jr., Carol Folsom (Jon), and Dan and Matt Snyder; Viola’s only great-granddaughter Violet Folsom; sister-in-law Marguerite White; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Open Bible in Alexander with visiting from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Viola’s memory can be made to the Church of the Open Bible or a charity of one’s choice.

The family wishes to thank Marshall’s Healthcare in Machias for their excellent care and love they have shown to our Mom these last nine months.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
