Vincent Philip Dineen tragically lost his life in a house fire on November 16, 2025. "Vince" was born in Calais Maine, on August 22, 1939, the third of the late Daniel T and Marjory Dineen's six children.
He grew up in Calais and found a passion for Derby racing in his early years. He was usually found with his brothers involved in a variety of activities either at the school or at Church. He graduated from Calais Memorial High School in 1958.
He knew he wanted to be in the Logging Industry, buying his first piece of wood land at the young age of only 17. He briefly gave it up to enlist in the Navy, but upon his honorable discharge, he jumped right back into it as if he had never left. He did, however, take time off for a quick Bangor wedding in 1968, followed by the birth of a son in '69. He was married for 29 years to Violet E Smith (Day) until her passing in October 1998.
Never will we find another as dedicated and hard-working as Vince. For more than 65 years during some harsh Maine winters, many loyal customers were kept warm with his firewood. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed time spent with his family, good friends, and a good rum & coke whether he was in Maine or at his winter home in Florida. For many years he hosted a weekly poker night in Meddybemps and often delighted his nieces, nephews and later his grandchildren with a 'road trip' to anywhere.
He will best be remembered for proudly walking in Uniform with his brothers ("the Dineen Boys") in the Annual International Festival Parades, for sporting about the area in his beloved '33 Chevy with the little American flag on the mirror, and for 'driving by' in his tired red Log truck always with a wave and a smile.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Vince is predeceased by his brothers Norman, Douglas, and Dayton Dineen, his son Jay Philip Smith and by Janet Ketchen, his companion of more than 20 years.
His is survived by his brother William H Dineen and his wife Carole of Calais, his sister Deanna M Crosby of Highland CA, his sons Patrick Dineen and his fiancé Wanita Thibodeau of Meddybemps, David Smith and his wife Janet of Norway, ME, and his daughter-in-law, Joeleen Smith of Bradenton FL. He will greatly be missed by his grandchildren Charles Dineen of Baring, Violet Dineen of Meddybemps, Cait Carter of Old Town, Christopher Smith of Bangor, Sean LoSciuto of Sanford and Jesse Smith of Zephyrhills FL. He also leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
