Tracy Jean Hancock

January 14, 1976 — September 29, 2021

Machias - On September 29, 2021 Tracy unexpectedly left this world, to reunite with many family members, who had preceded her in death. She was born on January 14,1976 in Calais ME to Gordon and Debbie (Hayward) Hancock.

She attended and graduated from the Calais school system in 1994. She then attended Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA. and graduated from there in 1996. For their senior trip they went to Disney World and she had the time of her life! They said she was the only senior on the trip that spent her time reading while waiting for rides.

After graduating from Perkins, she lived in Bangor ME for a short time before moving to Machias where she loved the fellow residents at the Sunrise Apts. and lived there until her death. While there, she spent much of her time reading, watching TV, and doing crafts. She had the uncanny ability to beat other players in video games, even though she was blind! She also spent many years attending and being an officer in SUFU, (Speaking Up For Us) a statewide organization promoting and helping people with disabilities. Tracy spent many summer days at Camp Sunshine and Pine Tree Camp which she always looked forward to all year long. She also loved attending church at the Jacksonville Methodist Church when she was able.

Tracy was preceded in death by her brother Joshua Hancock. both sets of grandparents, Clinton and Ruth Hayward and William and Alice Hancock, and her cousin Nicholas Armstrong, plus many loved extended family members, whom she dearly missed. She will be sorely missed by her parents Gordon and Debbie Hancock of Calais, her brother Christopher of Old Town, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tracy's funeral will be Friday October 8, 2021 at 1 P.M. at the Second Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Burden officiating. Interment will follow at the Calais Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Kathy Look, who was not only Tracy's caretaker but her confidant and friend for many years.

Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
