Obituary

Theodore Peter Sperdakos, better known as "Theo" or "Ted", 75, passed away on May 31, 2026.Born on August 19, 1950, in New York, NY, Ted's natural calling to the outdoors eventually led him to Maine, where he found the place he truly considered home. Throughout his life, he embraced the wilderness and all it had to offer, building a life centered around hunting, fishing, conservation, and sharing his knowledge with others.

Ted worked for many years as an Operations Agent for Delta Airlines. Outside of work, he devoted himself to the Maine outdoors. He was a recognized Maine deer antler scorer, recording and reporting antler measurements, a certified Hunting Safety Instructor, a Registered Maine Guide, and a respected outdoorsman. Moose and deer hunting in northern Maine was among his greatest passions, and after retirement, hunting and fishing became more than hobbies-they were simply a way of life.

Ted enjoyed countless days in the woods and on the water, especially at his camp on Love Lake. After moving from Gray to Alexander, he spent many happy years enjoying the beauty of Downeast Maine, pursuing the outdoor lifestyle he loved.

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Konstantinos "Dean" Sperdakos and Helen Sperdakos; his grandson, Michael Cormier; and his granddaughter, Janelle Sperdakos.

He is survived by his brother, Evan Sperdakos and wife Sharon; his children, Dean Sperdakos and girlfriend Susan Allen, Laura Sperdakos and partner Jeff Lechner, and Nicholas Sperdakos and wife Anne Sperdakos; his grandchildren, Tianna Sperdakos, Kyle Sperdakos, Ashley Cormier, and Ethan Sperdakos; and his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Cora, Sophie, and Oliver Sperdakos, Evalynn Bureau, and Preston Cormier. He is also survived by his faithful companions, his cat, Jeter, and his dog, Annie.

Ted also leaves behind a very special friend, Heather Sockabasin, who was like another daughter to him, along with her husband Howie and their children, Reanna Crowe, Paige Sockabasin, and Dehkin Sockabasin. Just days before his passing, they shared a special day together on the lake, reminiscing and enjoying the company of one another-a memory that will be treasured by all who were there.Among those who will miss him greatly is his longtime friend Ronnie of Tennessee. Though miles apart, their friendship endured through the years and remained an important part of Ted's life.

Ted will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his knowledge of Maine's wilderness, his willingness to teach others, and the countless memories made around hunting camps, fishing boats, and campfires. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.Services will be held at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, Monday June 8, 2026 with visitation from 1-2 pm and the funeral to follow at 2 pm. Burial will occur on June 15, 2026, at 1 pm at the Lower Gloucester Cemetery, 96 Gloucester Hill Rd, New Gloucester, ME.
