Theodore C. Ackley

Meddybemps – Theodore C. Ackley, 85, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Marshall Healthcare in Machias. Ted was born in Cutler on September 23, 1935, son of Clyde and Christine Ackley.

After graduating from Washington Academy, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served with the Military Police with two tours in Vietnam. Ted married Myrtle Palmeter. Following his retirement with 24 years of service, Ted and Myrtle settled in Meddybemps. He worked for locals and seasonals on Meddybemps Lake doing property maintenance. Ted also was a security officer for the paper mill in Baileyville, drove school bus, and served as a municipal officer for the town of Meddybemps.

Ted was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and loved watching all of the local high school basketball games. He was a member and Past Master of Crescent Lodge No. 78 A.F. & A.M. in Pembroke, St. Croix Lodge No. 46 A.F. & A.M. in Calais, St. Croix Chapter No. 17 Royal Arch Masons, Hugh de Payens Commandry No. 15 Knights Templar, Anah Shrine in Bangor, and the Scottish Rite.

In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Myrtle Ackley; a son Steve; sister Elaine; brother Blaire; and two nephews, Greg and Jarrod. Surviving are his four children, David Ackley and wife Therese of Wells, Dan Ackley of Cooper, Lauri Ackley of Canton, and Joe Ackley and wife Sharon of Milford; six grandchildren, Stephanie Wood of East Machias, Daniel Ackley and wife Rachel of Cooper, James Huntley of East Machias, Matthew Huntley of Machiasport, Ash Ackley of Machias, and Chelsea Ackley of Old Town; seven great-grandchildren; sister Judy Leaf of Florida; sister-in-law Maxine Palmeter of Meddybemps; several nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A graveside service at Green Hill Cemetery in Meddybemps will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, June 27th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted’s memory may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais.
