Obituary

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of Teresa Monk, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 10, 2025, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 79. Teresa was a wonderful person who was always there when people needed her the most, offering love, support and wisdom. She was our guiding light and source of endless love. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by her. She was born June 26, 1945, in Lambert Lake, Maine, the daughter of the late Otis and Myrtle Dyer. Teresa is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard Monk of Vanceboro, Maine; son Brian Monk and wife Beth of Belgrade; daughter Cheryl Long and husband Mark of Vanceboro; four grandchildren, Anthony Monk and partner Maureen Mahaney of Mount Vernon, Maine; Colleen Brown and husband Dustin of Farmingdale, Maine; Katrina Long of Bangor, Maine; and Kayla Long and partner Anthony Peters of Bangor, Maine; two great grandchildren, Laynee Brown and the late Hadlee Brown of Farmingdale, Maine; brother, the late Bobby Dyer and wife Norma of Lambert Lake, Maine; sister Eleanor Dyer of Vanceboro, Maine and brother Otis Dyer Jr. of Lambert Lake, Maine. Teresa graduated from Vanceboro High School. She then ventured off to Connecticut for 3 years where she married the love of her life Richard Monk. Soon they returned to Vanceboro where she worked at CP Railroad for 10 years and helped run the family business, Monk's Texaco/Monk's Variety Inc. for 36 years until her retirement in 2005. Teresa was a phenomenal cook, she loved to play cards, enjoyed shopping for clothes, bowling, curling, cribbage and traveling with her cousins. She loved spending time with her family at their camp on Spednic Lake, where she always said it was a little piece of heaven on earth. Teresa also loved spending time with and had a special bond with her fur baby dog, Josie. Teresa was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star #8 in St. Stephen, Nereides Temple No. 78 Daughter of the Nile in Saint John, Vanceboro United Methodist Church, Vanceboro Historical Society, Vanceboro Recreational Department, McAdam Curling Club and the Red Hats Society. Visitation will be held 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Vanceboro Community Center, 101 High St., Vanceboro. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the Vanceboro Community Center, with Pastor Cheryl Stratton officiating. Burial will follow at the Vanceboro Cemetery on Salmon Brook Road. Refreshments will be held immediately after back at the community center.
