Stan was a beloved father, a family man, a grandfather, and a respected businessman. Stan was a man of many accomplishments. He graduated Valedictorian from Princeton High School in 1956; served 6 years in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Airman First Class; earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Maine Orono. Stan was known around the world as a weightlifting legend. He devoted his life to the art of Olympic lifting. Stanley, following his father Arthur's footsteps, started lifting at an early age. His dad ensured he mastered Olympic weightlifting skills, but also ensured Stan followed his love to share his skills. They formed the Princeton Barbell Club, a family unit where Stan became a leader. Stan held the championship for his weight class numerous years earning the gold medal for the National Masters in Australia. Perhaps more importantly, his passion for weightlifting gave him a true calling in mentoring new generations of lifters. Stan demonstrated leadership as well as principles of personal integrity, honor, pride and purpose. He was successful in encouraging others to become their highest self. Stan always had a sports game on his television. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics. He loved history and was a great historian for the town of Princeton. Above all, Stan's highest priority was his family. His love for his family remained the cornerstone of his life. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara (Eunice) Wheaton.
