Shirley A.
McCray
Jun 29, 1937 — Sep 17, 2026
Baileyville
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Arlene McCray, fondly known as Sam, who left us on September 17, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Canada on June 29, 1937, Shirley was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of everyone she met.
In her early career, Shirley served as a diligent switchboard operator and later managed The Metropolitan in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, where she showed her remarkable knack for leadership. She found great fulfillment as the manager of the Tax & Duty Free store in St. Stephen, from which she eventually retired. It was at a local dance that she met the love of her life, Chester McCray, and they joyously celebrated their union on January 20, 1979.
Shirley lived life to the fullest, cherishing the simple pleasures-enjoying breakfast at the Big Stop, immersing herself in her favorite books, tuning in to watch The Price Is Right, and ensuring her hair was always perfectly styled. She delighted in the serenity of their cottage on Oak Bay, where countless cherished memories were made.
Shirley is predeceased by her beloved husband, Chester, and her dear brother, James Pike. She is survived by her devoted son, James McCray of Saint John, NB, her cherished hairdresser and friend, Michelle Gallant, along with her husband John and their family, and her special friend Aggie.
To honor Shirley's life, a private graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. We invite family and friends to share their condolences, memories, and photographs on her remembrance page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. Shirley Arlene McCray will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
