Eastport – Sherman Woodberry Camick, 88, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Marshall Healthcare in Machias. Sherman was born in Eastport on April 19, 1930, son of Harold and Maybell (Batron) Camick.
After graduating from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1948, Sherman worked for Unobskey’s Store in Eastport until starting his career with A&P, initially as a clerk and eventually becoming the store manager. On September 17, 1948, he married Jane Spear. Sherman retired from the A&P with 49 years of service. Always being active, he went on to work security for Federal Marine for over 20 years.
Sherman was a member of Eastern Lodge #7 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and Blakey United Methodist Church where he enjoyed being Santa for many years. Sherman was an avid sports fan. In his younger years he played for a local baseball team called Lobsters. Sherman enjoyed attending Shead sporting events, both home and away games, and was a fan of the New York Yankees. Sherman also looked forward to deer hunting season each year and his naps in the woods. He loved spending time and having cookouts at his camp on the lake.
In addition to his parents, Sherman was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane; a grandson Chris Camick; two brothers, Marvin and William “Bunk”; and three sisters, Frances Hamilton, Helen Algiers and Kathleen Lingley. Surviving are his three children, Philip Camick and wife Carolyn of Eastport, Richard Camick and wife Tari of Eastport, and Louise Murry and husband Mark of Marshfield; five grandchildren, Philip Lee Camick of Eastport, Lyndsey Violette and husband Lucas of Hermon, Ryan Murry of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jessica Murry of Marshfield, and David Baine and companion Meagan of Orrington; great-granddaughter, Clara Violette; great-grandson Chandler Baine; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friend and neighbor, Inez Pastore.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 29th at Hillside Cemetery in Eastport.
