Shelly Anne Childress, 63, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at her home in Robbinston surrounded by her daughter Candise Childress. Shelly was born in Calais on April 19, 1961, to the late Maurice and Marilyn Polk.
Shelly attended the schools in Woodland where she graduated from Woodland Jr/Sr High School. She had several jobs in the Woodland and Calais area, with working at the Calais McDonald's as a manager being one of her favorites. Shelly entered the United States Air Force in March 1985, and was honorably discharged in September 1988. Shelly served her country in Alaska where she made a home with her family, her late husband Vernon, late son Matthew, and her daughter Candise. In 2007, Shelly and her family moved to Maine where they made many memories. Shelly also graduated from Washington County Community College. After her husband passed, you would always see Shelly and her daughter together. They were inseparable.
Candise would like to thank Erica Marshall and her staff for all they did for her mom. She would like to extend a BIG thank-you to Mrs. Thelma Stevens for her time and friendship with Shelly. Shelly enjoyed the visits, she would always say Mrs. Thelma is a very nice lady, I like her a lot. Also, a big thank-you to the wonderful hospice team for their loving and attentive care they gave to her mom. Her nurse Kristi, CNA Janie, Sherry her social worker, and everyone behind the scenes who fielded all the night calls. And Robin for coming in and ministering. Thank you to all who visited, sent messages, called, and sent prayers. All were greatly appreciated.
In keeping with Shelly's wishes, there will be no services. Candise has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Shelly's memory to either Community Health & Counseling Services Home Health & Hospice ( www.chcs-me.org ) or Downeast Hospice Volunteers ( www.downeasthospicevolunteers.org ). Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
