Sheila Rae McCaslin, 66, passed away at her home on March 30, 2026. Born in Lubec, ME, on September 10, 1959, Sheila was the daughter of the late Charles Henry McCaslin of Lubec and Margaret Leah (Sabean) McCaslin of Eastport. One of seven children, she grew up with deep Downeast roots that remained with her throughout her life.
Sheila was a woman of many passions, an endlessly curious spirit, and a great sense of humor that endeared her to many. She had a deep love for music and singing, and she found peace in nature, especially with the crows she befriended; they would cause a great commotion whenever they saw her, knowing she was there to feed them. She possessed an impressive knowledge of herbalism and the natural world, identifying wild medicinal and edible plants like dandelion, comfrey, sour grass, goose tongue greens, and sweet grass—a wisdom she took great joy in sharing with her children. Her spirituality was also a central part of her life; she found great comfort in her devotion to the Virgin Mary and Angels, and she cherished her collection of religious relics, from sacred rosaries to beloved pictures of Jesus.
She also possessed a lifelong fascination with the unexplained—from astrology and ancient mysteries to aliens and Bigfoot. She was especially fond of a vivid dream she once had where Elvis took her up in a UFO and revealed he was her brother; together, they flew over her neighborhood from Lubec to Eastport, singing his songs. It was the most peaceful she had ever felt, and with her characteristic wit, it remained a story she loved to share.
Sheila had a long-held dream of living in Florida to be near her sons and grandchildren. To fulfill this wish, and through the incredible generosity of a kind friend, Sheila's daughter will soon be traveling to Florida with her mother's ashes to bring her home.
Above all, Sheila's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her four children: Crystal McCaslin (Patrick) of ME; Becky McCaslin of ME; Eric McCaslin (Whitney) of FL; and Scott McCaslin of FL. She was the devoted grandmother to five grandchildren: Zander, Izabella, Keegan, Aubree, and Raelynn.
Sheila is also survived by her siblings: Pam Gardener of MO; Caroleah MacKechnie (Ricky) of ME; Paula O'dell (Rene) of ME; Beverly McInnis of ME; and Chris McCaslin of ME; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Scott McCaslin.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Those who knew Sheila's are encouraged to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com.
