Obituary

Sanford "Sandy" Morrison, 85, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, in the arms of his loving wife of 61 years, with his son and grandchildren by his side.

Sandy graduated from Shead High School in 1959 and went on to serve four years in the United States Air Force as a military policeman stationed at an air base in London, England. He achieved the rank of Airman First Class and remained a proud veteran throughout his life. Following his military service, he returned home to Eastport, where he met the love of his life, Jean.

Above all else, Sandy was devoted to his family. He and Jean shared a timeless love and built a life centered around family, raising three children together and creating countless cherished memories along the way. Together, they enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and supporting their children and grandchildren at sporting events and other activities.

Sandy was a hardworking man who spent many years as a commercial fisherman and later worked for the Mearl Corporation in Eastport, where he formed many lifelong friendships. Outside of work, Sandy had a passion for fly-fishing. He, Jean, their son, and grandson spent many memorable days at Grand Lake Stream enjoying time together outdoors.

Known by many as one of the finest fly-tyers around, Sandy crafted flies sought after by fishermen throughout the region. Many who purchased his flies often bought extras to save for the future, and his family hopes those flies will continue to bring memories of Sandy each time they are used on the lakes and streams he loved so much.

Sandy was also a gifted storyteller, a talent he proudly passed down to his grandson, Steve. His stories, always entertaining and often shared with just a touch of embellishment, became a treasured part of family gatherings and memories shared among friends and loved ones.

Sandy was predeceased by his son, Stephen Morrison; daughter, Heather Morrison; parents, Francis and Kathleen Morrison; brothers, "Browe" Morrison and Gary Morrison; sister, Brenda Bowley; and sister-in-law, Joan Bruneau.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Morrison; son, Sanford "Sandy" Morrison Jr. and his wife, Paula Morrison; granddaughter Vicki Nadeau and her husband, Luke, along with their children, Christian, Cruz, and Willow; grandson Stephen Morrison and his wife, Paige, along with their daughter, Aubrey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Janet Haldeman; sisters-in-law, Heather Morrison and Betty Morrison; brother-in-law, John Emery and his wife, Ginny; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends, Randy and Trudy Newcomb.

A service celebrating Sandy's life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church in Eastport, with a reception immediately following at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stephen Morrison Scholarship Fund, c/o Bangor Savings Bank, 54 Washington St., Eastport, ME 04631, or to Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church in memory of Heather Morrison, PO Box 104, Eastport, ME 04631.
