Ruth E. Johnson, 89 of Baring peacefully departed surrounded by her beloved family on October 4, 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior.
Ruth was born in St. Stephen NB, Canada, on February 27, 1934, daughter of Walter and Ida Leavitt. She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond and Jimmy Leavitt, her sisters Jean McCurdy, Mary Richards, Joyce Sellars, Jackie Leavitt and infant twin sister, and nephew Ronnie Leavitt.
Ruth found lifelong companionship with her devoted husband, Lloyd “Dunk” Johnson. She dedicated her hard work to the Cotton Mill, Ware Knitters, and Calais Regional Hospital. Ruth’s heart overflowed with kindness and care, always putting others first and readily lending a helping hand. Her faith led her to church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Ruth cherished her moments in reading her Bible, solving word searches, knitting socks, mittens and dishcloths for family and friends, and just being around her family. She loved her family very much. Though animals were not her first love, Ruth’s heart softened in the presence of her daughter and son-in-law’s pets, Sampson and Bella and Larry Bird. Sampson was always by her side and she shared playful moments with Larry Bird the parrot teaching her the charming art of quacking.
Ruth is survived by her loving daughter and husband Susan and Peter Casey of Baring, and her adoring granddaughters Danielle and her husband Jamie and precious great grandson Ethan Guay of Centerville, NB, Mary Pelletier and precious great grandchildren Keegan and Kylee Pelletier of Baileyville and Amy and her husband Randy O’Brien of Baileyville. A sister-in-law Evelyn McCluskey of Milton, Massachusetts and numerous nieces and nephews. A special niece and friend Pauline Montgomery who shared daily conversations with her.
Ruth’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
