Obituary for Ronald Edward Sullivan

Eastport – Ronald Edward Sullivan, 81, passed away at his home Monday, July 18, 2016. Ronald was born in Eastport on April 24, 1935, son of James and Winnie (Whelpley) Sullivan.

After graduating from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1955, Ronald worked in the local sardine factories until enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1957. He initially served on the USCG Cutter Eastwind and later was stationed throughout New England. After faithfully serving for 23 years, Ronald retired in 1979. On July 5, 1960, he married his love, Sheila Grant in Milltown. Following his retirement, he worked for Merle Corp. in Eastport and later for Federal Marine as a Gang Boss. Ronald enjoyed building model boats and spending time on the ocean.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings Frank, Clarence, Charlie, Georgia, Beatrice, Burnetta and Ida.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Sheila Sullivan; four children, Ronald Sullivan and wife Tina of Eastport, Jeffrey Sullivan and wife Polly of Eastport, Lisa Roux and husband Don of Thorndike, and Stephen Sullivan of Hancock; ten grandchildren, Corey, Aaron, Blake, Brandy, Vicki Jean, Kristopher, Devon, Jordan, Maddie and Jayden; eight great-grandchildren, Halle Rae, Isaac, Avery, Peyton, Adler, Christian, Cruz and Willow; two sisters, Alice Ingersoll and husband Edward “Bud” of Robbinston, and Betty Richie of Eastport; a brother, James Sullivan and wife Marguerite of Eastport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held in the funeral home 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Eastport.
