Richard W.
Hodsdon
May 24, 1944 – December 11, 2024
Richard "Dick" Warren Hodsdon, a man of fortitude, charm, and genuine character, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the age of 80. Dick was born on May 24, 1944, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Charles Warren Hodsdon and Nellie (Hatfield) Hodsdon.
Richard was a man of humble beginnings. His spirit of perseverance and dedication was evident from his high school days in Calais, where he not only excelled academically but also showcased his athletic prowess on the basketball court. His career journey began at Georgia Pacific, where he worked for 20 years, leading the largest cutting crew. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish the Wickachee Restaurant in Calais, a venture he passionately ran for 40 years. Dick's love for the restaurant was not just about business. On slow days, he relished sitting with his customers, engaging in hearty conversations that left them feeling like family. A lover of nature, Dick cherished the outdoors, finding solace in hunting, fishing, and cheering on his favorite basketball team, the Calais Blue Devils.
Dick's memory will forever be cherished by his companion, Donna Blankley; his children, Rick Hodsdon and wife Karen, Judy Roy and husband Allen, and David Hodsdon and wife Stephanie; his siblings, Aleta and Chuck; his grandchildren, Cearra, Leslie and wife Lisa, Jonathan and wife Julianne, and DJ; and his great-grandson, Noah. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Ross.
Dick's life was a testament to the power of hard work and the importance of community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the business he built, and the memories he created.
In keeping with Dick’s wishes, a private burial took place at the Calais Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
