Edmunds Twp - Richard Oscar Hobart Jr, 87, passed away on December 17, 2021. Richard was born on August 19, 1934 to Richard and Marion (Macrae) Hobart in Edmunds.

Richard graduated from Dennysville High School and went on to the University of Maine Orono where he earned a degree in Agriculture and Husbandry. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Williams in Maine. Following his service, Richard returned to Maine and started working for the Maine State Dept. of Agriculture. In 1967 he met Priscilla Tarbell and they were united in marriage on December 27, 1968. Richard and Priscilla welcomed two sons, Thomas and Daniel.

Richard went on to have a long career with the federal government as a USDA Meat Inspector. After retiring, Richard and Priscilla moved back to Edmunds where they both volunteered extensively in the community and were active with the Dennysville Congregational Church. Richard will be remembered as a beloved husband and father, friend, and community volunteer.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Richard and Marion Hobart, his wife Priscilla, his brother Charles Hobart; and his brother-in-law John Tarbell. He is survived by his two sons Thomas of Pembroke, and Daniel and wife Deborah of China; grandchildren Justin and Hailey; his sister Lucy Rae Bailey and spouse Alton of The Villages FL, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Delores and Ted Vail of Portland, Beryl Hobart of Saco, Edie Tarbell of Gorham, and Richard and Joanne Tarbell of Largo FL.

There will be a celebration of life in the spring at the Dennysville Congregational Church. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
