Obituary

Rena L. (Sherlock) Garriott passed away peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family, on September 13, 2025. Rena was born on March 14, 1935, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, the proud daughter of Merton and Claire Lucille (Woods) Scribner. Rena was a bright light in the lives of many, graduating from Calais Memorial High School in the Class of 1952. Following high school, her dedication to personal growth led her to further her education at Miss Crabb's Business School in St. Stephen. She embarked on a successful career at Dead River Co., where she served faithfully for 34 years. In 1994 she retired as the credit manager. Rena's work ethic was unparalleled, and her commitment to her role was a testament to her character. Beyond her career, Rena was an individual of many passions. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as spending quality time with her family, crafting beautiful ceramics, taking on the challenge of a golf game, and exploring new places through travel. But what really made her happy was spending time with her family, a sentiment she reiterated in her final hours. Family gatherings were filled with playful verbal jabs and laughs. Her sense of humor was contagious, inspiring those around her to join in the fun. To know her was to love her; always a smile and never a bad word about anyone. Rena's spirit will live on in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Rena was predeceased by her parents, Merton and C. Lucille Scribner; her first husband Bruce Sherlock; grandson Adam Sherlock; and her brother Carl Scribner. Surviving are her husband, Jerald (Butch) Garriott; three children, David Sherlock and wife Elizabeth of Gray, Linda Sherlock of Groveland, MA, and Stephen Sherlock and wife Terry of Westfield, NB; grandchildren, Kyle Sherlock and partner Melissa Lardiere of Hartland, VT, Elena McNamara and husband Kelly of Bear, DE, Elizaveta Sherlock of Bear, DE, Justin Sherlock and partner Julie Hall of PEI, Aaron Sherlock and wife Jana, of Quispamsis, NB, and Janna Sherlock of Halifax, NS; great-grandchildren Addison, Kaiden, Everett, and Ayah, all of Bear, DE. Rena is also survived by several members of the Garriott family who accepted her with love, including step-children Kim Sermersheim and husband John of Perry, Jerald Garriott and wife Monica of North Wildwood, NJ, Robin Bouchard and husband John of Robbinston, and many grand and great grandchildren. There will be a graveside service at the Calais Cemetery on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM with a gathering immediately afterward to be held at Crumbs Cafe, Main Street, Calais. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to PAWS Brave Hearts of Calais, pawsbravehearts.org.
