Patrick Cole 51, Calais quietly passed away Wednesday January 21, 2026, at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He fought cancer and beat it 20 years ago and bravely faced it again. He did all he could to keep it at bay and tried not to let the pain he was in show. To those of us who loved him, we knew and thought he was the bravest person we have ever known.
He was born February 5,1974 to Patricia (Van Arsdale) Clark and Donald E. Cole in New Jersey. The family moved to Calais, and this is where he called home until his passing. He attended Calais schools and eventually obtained a nursing degree from WCCC. He worked for many years as a CNA and home health nurse it was a job he found very rewarding. He took great pride in giving his patients the best care he could.
Patrick didn't like having to leave his family to travel to Boston for chemo treatments, but he did like sending us all pictures of what he was seeing from the plane and walks near the Hope Lodge where he stayed. Patrick had a great knack for fixing things that others deemed broken. He liked the challenge of it all, and he usually won. He was a fierce and loyal friend, the kind you always knew would be there for you to listen, advise, or pitch in and help. He would always be there for those he cared for. The kind of person you wanted on your side. Aside from nursing Patrick had several interests, most all of them revolved around his family. He loved and cherished the times he spent with his Mom. Their conversations were all very important to him. She was the greatest influence in his life and safety in the storm until her passing. He immensely enjoyed working on projects around the home with his sons by his side. It made him so proud to be able to teach them something or learn something new from them. They were a great source of joy for him. He was so excited to see what the future would hold for them. When he became a grandfather, something he thought he was too young for, he found a love he never knew possible. If fatherhood made him fulfilled and proud, becoming Pop-Pop to two little ones truly made him feel complete. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them, anything he wouldn't give them just to make sure they were safe and happy.
Patrick is survived by his three sons Kyle and Damien of Calais, Skyler (Taylor Storey) of Princeton. Two grandchildren Finnegan of Calais and Oaklynn of Princeton. His father Donald (Linda) Cole of Florida, stepdad James (Jimbo) Clark of Florida, brother Donald (Tracey Oliva) of Calais, niece Emily and nephew Conor McCadden whom he loved very much. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Former wife Trish, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews from his past marriage that he was always in touch with and still considered family.
He is predeceased by his mother Patricia Clark, maternal and paternal grandparents along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. His former mother and brother-in-law and two great nephews.
Patrick will be fondly remembered always by friends and family for so many reasons, his love for his family, his strength and bravery while fighting cancer but most of all for his personality and dry sense of humor. You may not always like what he had to say but it was quite possibly what you needed to hear, and he would make sure to tell you.
The brothers would like to send a special thank you to the following people for the help they gave their Dad over the last year. Brian Nicholas for your constant friendship, being there when you were needed and the work you did on the GoFundMe, Belinda Smith for all the meals, it was a great burden taken off his shoulders. Richard and Cheryl Trader for always being there for their Dad, picking him up at the bus station and taking him to your home no matter the weather or hour. Lastly, their Aunt Tracey Oliva for all the times you drove their Dad to and from Bangor to catch a flight no matter the weather even getting up in the wee morning hours to go, never asking for anything in return. Your kindness and compassion for our Dad did not go unnoticed by us we will always be grateful to you all.
There will be a graveside service for Patrick in the spring to early summer in Calais. Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. We invite all who knew Patrick to share their fondest memories and upload photos to his memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com. In these shared moments, we can collectively remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Patrick Cole.
