Michael William Cook, 73, died Tuesday, Apr. 16, 2024, at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1951, in Eastport, the son of William Arthur Cook and Alice (Emery) Holt.
Mike grew up in Eastport, attended local schools, and graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1969. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, served two tours of duty in Vietnam in a Civil Engineering Battalion, and was honorably discharged in 1972. He returned to Eastport and worked at the Guilford Woollen Mill before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard as a Boatswain Mate. Mike retired as a Petty Officer First Class in 1991 after twenty years of active service. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran and had the distinction of being one of the last military lighthouse keepers at the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth. Mike attended the Oklahoma Panhandle State University and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Computer Studies before returning to Maine.
He is predeceased by his parents and his wife Colleen S. (Hutton) Cook. Survivors include his brother John “Terry” Holt of Grants Pass, Ore.; one son, Michael W. Cook and his wife Marivic of Melbourne, Fla.; three daughters Stephanie Cook of Las Vegas, Nev., Jessica Cook of Meade, Kan.; and Kayla Cook of Maine; two step-sons James Jorgensen and his wife Jennifer of Northboro, Mass., William Jorgensen and his wife Amy of Windham; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, July 6, at the Hillside Cemetery in Eastport. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
