Merle Royce Fitzsimmons (80) passed away surrounded by the love of his family on May 2nd, 2024, at Calais Community Hospital in Calais ME. Merle was born in Milltown, ME on May 31st, 1943, youngest son of John and Hattie (Tracy) Fitzsimmons.
Merle attended schools in Milltown and Calais, in 1963 he married the love of his life Jacqueline “Jackie” MacMillan Fitzsimmons. Merle is survived by his son Robert (Bob) Fitzsimmons and daughter-in-law Linda of Charlotte, granddaughter Jackie Fitzimmons of New Brunswick, grandson Evan Race of Florida, great-grandsons Michael McAleenan and Brady Craig, and a special niece Brenda (Fitzsimmons) Lee. Merle is also survived by brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Merle is predeceased by his parents, wife Jackie, son Jeffrey, brothers John, Lloyd, Paul, sisters Margaret, Elizabeth and daughter-in-law Rita.
Merle was the Baileyville Police Chief from 1970 to 1972 at that time he then transitioned into a career change as Safety Officer for Georgia Pacific, Woodland Division and Atlanta, GA until this retirement.
Per the request of the deceased there will be no service or visiting hours, Merle will be laid to rest with his wife and son in the Calais Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank the caring nursing staff of Calais Community Hospital and Wellmore Point Assisted Living. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
