Maxine R. Palmeter

August 20, 1945 — October 12, 2024

Meddybemps

Maxine Roberta Palmeter, 79, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at her beloved home in Meddybemps. Maxine was born in Calais on August 20, 1945, daughter of Curtis and Roberta (Hatton) Palmeter.

Maxine's journey through life began with her graduation from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1963, after which she ventured to Portland to pursue her dream at the Golden School of Beauty Culture. Following her training, Maxine flourished as a beautician in the vibrant Portland area, bringing joy and confidence to many through her artistry. In time, she returned to her roots in Meddybemps, where she devoted herself to raising her two beloved children.

As her children grew, Maxine embraced new opportunities, taking a position at Princeton Truck Stop, where she formed a deep and lasting friendship with Natalie Deschene. Later, she joined the team at Walmart in Calais, dedicatedly serving as a department manager until her retirement in 2010. Throughout her life, Maxine delighted in various pursuits, including quilting, scrapbooking, and traveling. She found particular joy in unwinding in her screened gazebo, watching the world go by, a serene testament to her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. In her later years, she embraced her affectionate role as "Nanny P," a name lovingly bestowed upon her by Haidyn and Colton.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her son, Jarrod Damon, as well as her three siblings: Curtis “Sonny” Palmeter Jr., Myrtle Ackley, and Betty Ingersoll. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Palmeter, of Machias; three cherished grandchildren, Bailey, Billy, and Curtis; a nephew; several nieces; her dear friend, Natalie Deschene; and her loyal canine companion, Willow.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Round Pond Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
