Matthew Paul King, 42, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth.  Matthew was born in Calais on January 3, 1981, son of Paul and Diane (Monaghan) King.

After graduating from Calais High School, Class of 1999, Matthew attended Lineman school in New Hampshire.  He started his career with White Mountain Cable, working in New Hampshire and western Maine.  Matthew then was hired as a lineman with CCG Construction, working throughout the eastern United States.  He assisted in line repair during hurricanes in Puerto Rico, Florida, and New Orleans.  In 2020, Matthew returned home to Calais and was currently employed with the Calais Water Dept.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, target practicing, and riding his motorcycle. 

Matthew was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Frederick and Maxine King; maternal grandparents James and Phyllis Monaghan; and aunt and uncle Mary and Dean Tuttle.  Surviving are his parents Paul and Diane King of Calais; brother Jonathan King of Calais; daughter Nevaeh Thomas of Calais; companion Sonya Lunn of Calais; step-children Mackenzie and Blake of Calais; Sonya’s parents Billy and Jeannie Lee of Calais; aunts and uncles William and Lois King of Hickory, NC, Priscilla and Danny Hatt of St. Stephen, NB, Mary and Ted McLean of Calais, Paul and Karen Monaghan of Portsmouth, NH, Jim and Barb Monaghan of Verona Island, and Janet Monaghan of Calais; numerous close cousins and friends; and his faithful canine companions Annie and Dante.
