Obituary

We are saddened to share the passing of our beloved Mary "Lindy" M. Hatt, a woman whose resilience, love, and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Born on August 8, 1955, in Queen's Village, NY, to Harold McMurtry and Francine (Altvater) McMurtry Chisholm, Lindy graced this world with her presence for 70 beautiful years. A proud graduate of Calais High School, Class of 1973, :Lindy's love for life was as inspiring as it was infectious. Lindy was a woman of many passions. From her early years, she held a deep love for animals, especially her horses and dogs. She often thought about becoming a veterinarian, but life had a different plan. On November 10, 1973, she married the love of her life, Gary Hatt, and chose to start a family, which became the most cherished part of her life. Later, as her daughters began school, Lindy, ever committed to personal growth and learning, attended W.C.V.T.I. (now WCCC) in Calais, graduating with an Associates in Secretarial Studies and in Culinary Arts. She then devoted over 15 years of her life to serving as a Dietary Aide & Cook at Barnard's Nursing Home (Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center). Lindy was as creative as she was caring. A member of the St. Croix International Quilters Group, she spent countless hours in her sewing room, crafting beautiful quilts to donate to hospice. She also made holiday decorations, toys, doll clothes, costumes, wall hangings, family quilts, recipe albums, table runners, and pin cushions. Her creativity extended to the kitchen, where she loved to cook and bake, especially for her family. Lindy had a deep love for reading, particularly ghost stories and thrillers, and enjoyed shows like The Pioneer Woman, The People Puzzler, Ghost Hunters, Dark Winds, and Maine Cabin Masters. Music was another joy in her life, with Fleetwood Mac, Cher, and Adam Lambert among her favorite artists. Lindy is survived by her loving husband, Gary Hatt, their children, Shelly Ramsdell, and husband Gary Ramsdell Jr., Malinda Hatt and fiancé Joseph Storey Jr. of Perry, granddaughter Lindsey Ramsdell, siblings Francine Gardner and fiancé Charles Towns of Baring, Brenda Fielding and husband Pete of Lakeville, and Diane Foster of Calais, nieces, Danielle, Cynthia, Christine, Kathie, and Renee`, nephews, Nathan, Michael, and Peter, dear friends Dede Apt, Ginger and Charlies Lewis, and Teresa Porter, her faithful canine companion Gidget, and a host of cousins and great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Hatt, parents, Harold McMurtry and Francine Chisholm, grandparents, Harold and Mary (Irey) McMurtry, and William and Kathleen (Dana) Altvater, siblings Kathleen Foster and David McMurtry, brothers-in-law Danny Gardner and Larry Foster, and a nephew Ryan. Lindy's life was a testament to strength, love, and the power of resilience. Her passing leaves a big emptiness in the lives of everyone she touched, but her spirit will continue to inspire us all. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Woodland Cemetery, 30 Ryan Rd., Baileyville, Maine. Arrangements are by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
