Marshall grew up in Abington MA., graduating high school in 1959. Married Ruth in the fall of 1959, moving to Brockton, MA where he worked in sales for Knapp Shoe Store. Promotions moved him and his family to Lewiston, ME, Rochester, NY, and Hartford CT. After years of vacationing with his wife and 4 children in the eastern United States and Canada, they settled in Robbinston ME. Where they purchased a farm, and he got a job as a carpenter. He soon ran his own carpentry business. After taking night classes, he was employed with the Calais High School teaching Building Trades and subbed at Washington County Community College. Marshall rarely ever had one job at a time. He started an oil delivery business, a nightclub, and owned apartments in Calais. He drove for Pottles Transport and worked for Cianbro. He also taught Building Trades at Woodland High School in Baileyville, was a driver for Sunrise Partners, and worked for Treworgy Pharmacy. He enjoyed being on the water. He loved traveling by train. He enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes to try. He also enjoyed researching his family genealogy, visiting family in Canada, and enjoyed the company of family and friends. As busy as he was, he always had time for his family, and he was never too busy to help others.

He proudly served on the board of Eastern Maine Electric Co-Op, enjoying the meetings, prep work for the meetings, the members, and the travel associated with it. Marshall was a Past Member and King Lion of the Calais Lions Club, Sons of the American Legion, and served on the Robbinston Volunteer Fire Department.
