Magnar Rambjor passed away peacefully with family at his side at the age of 93 on January 29, 2026. He was born on a farm in Hustad, Norway on November 6, 1932. He was one of 9 children. His father, a butcher, took young Magnar with him to other people's farms to work. During his youth, WWII broke out and the Nazis occupied Norway. After the war, Magnar served in the Norwegian Army. He served most of his time in post war Germany.
He arrived back in Norway and met Aud Lonseth, his future wife. They married and sailed from Norway to Brooklyn, NY on the Oslofjord in 1955, emigrating to the USA. Magnar worked on the ships in Brooklyn, saving up to start his own business, an export appliance business called Viking Appliances.
Magnar and Aud had 4 children: Ailine, Ronald, Kenneth and Karin. In 1966, they bought a farmhouse in Cooper, Maine as a vacation home. Magnar built a runway on this land and bought an airplane. He earned a private pilot certificate and flew the airplane between the vacation home and NY. In 1976, most of the family relocated to Maine from NY and Magnar bought an established business in Robbinston. He renamed the business Viking Variety and sold a wide selection of goods from stereos to groceries and ice cream for the kids.
Magnar was not done making changes in his life. The road called out to him and he became a traveling salesman, selling tools around Washington County and Aroostock County, where he met Claudette Picard, a great and dear friend to him.
Magnar enjoyed cross country skiing and continued with it in his 80's. Locals would often see him sipping coffee and enjoying meals in the many fine restaurants in Calais, especially Jo's Diner and Pizzeria in more recent years.
Our family appreciates the kindness shown to him during his final years as Alzheimer's progressed. A special thank you goes out to Rhonda and Nicole for their dedicated, compassionate care.
Magnar is predeceased by his father, Ole Rambjor and his mother, Emma Honningsvag, siblings, Frederik, Johan, Bjorn, Johanne, Marie, Else, and most recently, Minnie, as well as his two sons, Ronald and Kenneth Rambjor.
He is survived by his sister, Odny and the mother of his four children, Aud Lonseth Antone, his daughter, Ailine and husband, Theo, his daughter, Karin and husband Alvery., his grandchildren, Trina Rambjor, Leif Rambjor (Lisa), Emma Keating, Taylor Keating and Nate Lingley, his great grandchildren, Mya Rambjor, Emy Rambjor, Liam Riggs, Savanah Waycott and Nils Rambjor.
