Loraine J. Wilson

July 17, 1928 — June 15, 2023

Calais

On June 15, 2023, Loraine Julliette Theriault Jandreau Wilson (94) passed away peacefully in her sleep at Marshall’s Health Care Facility, Machias Maine.  Loraine T. Wilson was born July 17, 1928, in Wallagrass ME, the 15th of 17 children to Ulysses Theriault and Caroline (Morin) Theriault.

After graduating from Fort Kent High School in 1946, Loraine entered the workforce as an administrative assistant and was successfully promoted to office manager for the Superintendent of schools in Fort Kent, moved on to work as office manager for the Superintendent of schools in Calais. Then worked as a translator at Georgia Pacific and ultimately finishing her career at USDA/FmHA in Calais. Despite her large family and career aspirations Loraine always made time to be of service to her church ministry and community. She belonged to Calais Regional Hospital Auxiliary, St Croix Club, COAC Association and was a dedicated member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Board, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Worship and Spirituality Commission and various prayer groups. The highlight of mom’s religious growth was the trip she took to the Holy Land with some of her siblings and in laws in the early 1990s. Loraine was a woman of deep Catholic faith and this trip, being so close to the Pope, was a spiritual experience she deeply cherished.

Loraine, also known to her family and loved ones as “Memere”, was well loved in her small town of Calais Maine, where she resided since 1960. Loraine was the birth mother of five children. Despite being widowed at 37 years of age, with 4 children, she refused to let the sudden death of her late husband, Peter Eli Jandreau (39, January 6,1966) keep her from loving and supporting her family industriously, with an unshakable determination and faith.

Loraine also enjoyed bowling, playing golf, cross country skiing, knitting, crocheting, macramé, arranging flowers, fishing, softball and volunteering at the hospital coffee shop with friends. Her friends would often chuckle and think to themselves, “Wow, where do you get all that energy, Loraine!”  Mom was our rock, and no words can fully explain how special, caring, determined and loving she was to all who crossed her path. Memere loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her step grandchildren with her whole heart and soul. She always provided support and love to her family and her beloved community.

Loraine was predeceased by her sons Ira Lee Jandreau (Noel), Brent Gregory Jandreau (Dora), first born Joseph Jandreau; husband Peter Eli Jandreau second husband Donald Wilson; stepson Robert Wilson.

Loraine is survived by her daughter Audrey Jandreau MacDonald (Alvin) of Halifax, Nova Scotia; son Peter Charles Jandreau (Valorie) of Deer Isle; brother Lucien (Marie) Theriault of Fort Kent; stepdaughter Jane Laura Sturgis of New Gloucester; grandchildren TJ, Jacki, Joseph, Candace, Jenna, Aliesja; great grandchildren Jackson and Haley. She is also survived by her mini schnauzer Molly (therapy dog and constant companion).

Celebration of life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 31 Calais Avenue, Calais Maine 04619 11 A.M. Monday, July 17th (Mom’s 95th birthday) followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at maysfuneralhome.com.

Loraine is remembered as a strong willed, loving daughter, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great grand-mother, friend, colleague, wife and follower of Jesus Christ. She will be forever missed and never forgotten. May you rest in Peace. We love you!  God Bless!
