Lloyd Hollis Noyes, 86, a wonderful family man with a heart of gold, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. Lloyd was born on January 15, 1939, to Clyde Sr. and Lydia (Getchell) Noyes, on the Irish Settlement Rd in Danforth, Maine, a place he always held close to his heart.
Lloyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a 50 year member of the Lewey's Island Lodge, and a loyal friend to many. He was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone, and chances are, he'd have you laughing before you parted ways. A proud graduate of Danforth High School, Lloyd went on to serve his country in the United States Army, where he spent time in Germany and Texas before returning home and settling in Topsfield with his loving wife, Rachel. That same year, they welcomed their daughter, Terry; a moment Lloyd always said was the best thing that ever happened to him. He often described fatherhood as his favorite job, one he cherished every single day. He loved watching his grandchildren learn new things, hunting, trapping, fishing and learning to drive. He was very proud of Thomas for becoming a guide and finding the love of bear hunting. He was equally proud of Taylor, watching her become a "Great Little Mother", as he would say. Lloyd truly thought of Jeff as a son, cherishing the times they spent listening to hounds run. Lloyd loved to be able to connect with all his nieces and nephews on facebook.
Over the years, Lloyd worked cutting pulp, at the Woodland Mill, for the Maine Warden Service, Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Forest Rangers, ran his own skidder, worked for Orland Dwelley, and eventually L.R. Hamilton until his retirement. But no matter the job, Lloyd could fix just about anything, a true jack-of-all-trades.
An avid outdoorsman, Lloyd loved hunting, fishing, trapping, and raising mink and goats in his younger years. In later years, his favorite place to be was at the family camp on East Musquash Lake, where memories were made, the coffee was hot, fish fries were had, and laughter came easy. He looked forward to summer visits from family in Massachusetts, fall bear hunts with his southern friends, and of course, deer season with "the boys."
Lloyd will be remembered for his sharp wit, endless jokes, and a smile that made everyone feel at home. He had a special way of making people feel like old friends, even if you'd just met.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rachel (McGaw) Noyes, his parents, brothers and sisters, Archie, Harland, Wanda, Ardis, Amos, Leta, Ione, Charlene, Clara, and Clyde Jr., in-laws Linwood and Vera McGaw, Donna & Dick Shaw, Elgin Mcgaw and Dale Mcgaw. Great friend Bobby Bacon.
Lloyd leaves behind his daughter Terry Cochran and special son-in-law Jeffrey Cochran of Topsfield; Thomas Cochran of Topsfield; Taylor Byers and husband Brent of Bradley; great-grandchildren Ava and Ellis Byers of Bradley; Marcelle Durost, Ashley Marble, Joni Britt, Brooklyn and Bo Cox of Crestwood, Kentucky; sister Lydia Preston and family, brother Colby Noyes and family; sister-in-law Barbara Noyes and family; sister-in-law Cathy McGaw and family; sister-in-law Mary Mcgaw, Randy and TriciaKlockars, the Auen families, Jay and Tammy Mclellan and family, Joe and Ramona Bowen, brother-in-law Dick Preston, hunting companions Harold and David, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends too numerous to count.
Special thanks to C Unit at Maine Veterans Home for the great care.
Lloyd's quick wit, kind heart, and love for his family will be deeply missed — but the stories (and jokes) he shared will live on for generations to come.
There will be a graveside service at a later date. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
