Obituary for Leslie Theodore Cook

Calais – Leslie Theodore Cook, 84, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at a Bangor hospital. Leslie was born in Queens, NY on January 30, 1933, son of William Cook II and Mabel (Boehm) Cook.

During high school, he was a Naval Cadet and at the start of the Korean War Leslie enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He served his country aboard the USS Salem CA-139. While in the Navy, Leslie married his love, Angelina DiMucci. Following his service, he returned to New York and worked various jobs until starting his career with the New York State Police. Leslie served as a State Trooper, retiring as a Sergeant with 29 years of service. While working as a State Trooper, he was award The Meritorious Police Service Bar for actions taken by himself when protecting life and property at the scene of a fire disaster.

After retirement, he worked private security details for several years. In 1997, Leslie and Angelina moved to Maine and lived in Red Beach. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and going for car rides. Leslie was a member of the local ATV club.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Cook III. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Angelina Cook; four children, Karen Janhsen and husband Karl of Port Jefferson, NY, Leslie Cook Jr. of Robbinston, Margaret Ross and husband David of Calais, and Suzanne Tartaglia and husband Tom of Smithtown, NY; nine grandchildren, Henry, Brendan and John Janhsen, John Homan, James, Scott and Michael Lursen, and Olivia and Jack Tartaglia; one great-grandchild, Keighan Russell; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Papaccio of Bethpage, NY, and Santa Anzalone of Massapequa Park, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his canine companion Maggie.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a Celebration of Leslie’s Life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 27. Burial will follow in Red Beach Cemetery. Donations in Leslie’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
