Lawrence Samuel Lord of Alexander Maine, a man known for his relentless work ethic, deep family roots, and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on May 31, 2025.
Born in Calais and raised in Crawford, Maine, Lawrence spent his early years working in the woods, harvesting and trucking pulpwood. It was during this time he met and married Hilda Jean Morang, and together they settled in Alexander, Maine, and built a life rooted in hard work and devotion.
When Maine winters grew too harsh, Lawrence moved to Connecticut where he honed his skills working for a concrete foundation contractor. In 1964, after three years away, he returned and started his own concrete foundation business. Just a few years later, in 1968, he founded Lawrence Lord and Sons Well Drilling, a business that continues to serve the State of Maine, to this day. In 1987, Lawrence sold the foundation business to Dale Richardson, who was like a son to him. Later in life, Lawrence turned his attention to collecting antique farm equipment and tools. With great pride, he transformed these treasures into the Lawrence Lord's Old Farm Museum, a testament to his appreciation for history and craftsmanship. Throughout the years, Lawrence enjoyed his winters in Florida.
Lawrence was married to Hilda for 62 years until her passing in 2014. He was predeceased by Hilda, his parents Joseph and Althea Lord, his brother Gordon "Guy" Lord, sons-in-law David R. Carson, and Phillip Clark, and his great-granddaughter Emma Marie Carson.
He is survived by his sister Gloria Vining; his five children; Barbara Clark (Arnold), Bonnie Carson, Terry Lord (Lisa), Paula Seavey (Kenny), and Larry Lord (Laura Jean), His grandchildren; Lisa Karen (Derek), David Adam (Amy), Jennifer (Trevor), Matthew (Hollye), James (Anna), Megan (Andrew), Dylan (Tisha), Logan (Carrie-beth), John (Kristina), Adam (Hannah), Ashley (Doug), Christina, and Cassandra, his 22 great-grandchildren; Morganne, Mitchell, Mason, Olivia, Jadaan, Fenway, Lucas, Logan, Haidyn, Colton, Penelope, Jasper, Olivia, Avery, Skylar, Landon, Aiden, Owen, Cayson, Aleigh, Ivy, and Isla, along with a special friend Donna. His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his caretakers- Lexie, Jackie, Kim, Maddy, and Janell - for their compassionate support.
In 1972 Lawrence made a decision which would change his life here on earth, and into eternity when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior - (Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Acts 16:31). His faith remained a central part of his life, and he was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church and Crawford Union Church. He was a member as well as a founding father of the Church of the Open Bible in Alexander. Lawrence Lord leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, strength, and faith. It was often said that no one worked harder than Lawrence - a sentiment echoed by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He gave generously to those in need, to the local church, and Feed the Children, and World Vision Organizations. Particularly close to his heart was the Gospel outreach in the Philippines through the ministry of our friend Gina Abacahin.
Visitation will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Church of the Open Bible in Alexander, followed by services at 1 PM, burial will take place at the Crawford Cemetery.
