Laura M. Donovan

January 5, 1967 — June 4, 2024

Calais

It is with great sadness that Laura Marie Donovan, 57, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.  Laura was born in Limestone on January 5, 1967, daughter of James and Matsuko (Shiina) Nixon.

Laura graduated from Calais High School, Class of 1985, and on June 23, 1985, she married the love of her life, Troy Donovan. Through their 38 years of marriage, Laura and Troy raised 6 children and 4 grandkids. The love they shared for each other was endless, and was a true example of a happy marriage.  Laura started her career in retail with Ames Department Store in Calais, and later with Walmart where she was the store manager for several years.  Laura loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and going on ATV rides. Cooking large feast for her family and friends was how Laura showed her love. She also loved going to Patriots games, and going to concerts with her closest friends and family.  Laura lived to make memories alongside her family, specifically taking them to vacation at Disney. Most would have never known the battle that Laura was going through with cancer for many years. She faced her illness with bravery and strength and never let it define her. During the battle, her priority remained to continue making those memories and cherishing each and every moment with those she loved. Being a Mammie to her grandkids brought her the most joy, and it wasn’t just her grandkids that called her Mammie, anyone who knew her knew that she was the “Mamster”.

In addition to her parents James and Matsuko Nixon, Laura was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Kimball; and her father-in-law, Paul Donovan.  Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Troy Donovan; six children, Justin Donovan and companion Cassie Kerr of Franklin, Jessica Raymond and husband Chris of Carmel, Brianna Donovan and fiancé Jacob Robbins of Calais, Derek Donovan of LA, Piper Donovan of Calais, and Samuel Donovan of Calais; four grandchildren, Brielle, Jamison, Jayce, and Caleb; sister Kathy Barnard and husband Maurice of Calais; three brothers, James Nixon and wife Teresa of VA, John Nixon and wife Terri of FL, and William Nixon of VA; mother-in-law Carol Donovan of Calais; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joanne and Ricky Cushing of Cooper, Jeffrey Donovan of Calais, and John Kimball of NY; special friend Amy Barnard of Lubec; and many nieces and nephews.

Laura’s memory will forever live on through all that knew and loved her. Her strength, support, smile, and resilience will always be remembered. She was loved beyond measure and will be dearly missed.

In keeping with Laura’s wishes, there will be no services.  Donations in Laura’s memory may be made to the Beckett Center, Activity/Special Olympics Fund, PO Box 384, Calais, ME 04619.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
