Laura M. Dana

September 8, 1958 — July 10, 2023

Pleasant Point

Laura Marie Dana who was born on September 8, 1958 in Cambridge, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at her home on Gull’s Way, in Sipayik on July 10, 2023.

She was surrounded by her loving family in the home that she designed, built and loved, where she always welcomed friends and family, and where you often found her baking her special recipes for friends and family.

She was a very proud, strong, and independent Passamaquoddy woman who fought fiercely and passionately to protect Native lands and to keep her community safe. She shared her Native culture proudly, in every aspect of her life.

She had a natural way with children and she devoted her life to nurturing, educating and enjoying their company. She was fully immersed in the lives of her numerous nieces and nephews. She was proud of her work as a Montessori teacher in her community and loved all of the children who she said gave so much more to her than she gave to them.

Laura served as the family historian, the one who always knew the stories of our family as well as other families within the community. She was an integral part of any family gathering and always reminded us to come together often.

Laura was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Hazel Dana; her brother Glenn; and her son Dana.

Laura is survived by her son Peter Lamb and wife Renee, her two granddaughters Jada and Jasmine and great grandson Kaizer, her sisters: Madonna Soctomah; Sonja Dana and husband Sam;  Gail Dana; Marilyn Bedard and husband Richard; Sheila Ricker and husband Peter; brother Ralph Dana and wife Nikki; many nieces and nephews and friends and relatives too numerous to mention. Laura is also survived by her loving furry companion, Toto, who always accompanied her and brought her so much joy and comfort.

Friends and family are invited to visit at her home, 14 Gull’s Way in Sipayik , for her wake starting Thursday, July 13 at noon and continuing until Saturday, July 15.  A 2 pm graveside service will follow at Sipayik cemetery.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
