Obituary for Karen Jean Church

Baileyville – Karen Jean (Martin) Church, 48, passed away April 11, 2006 after a long courageous battle with cancer at a Bangor hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born March 11, 1958 in Leominster, Mass., the daughter of Leroy and Avis (King) Martin. Karen graduated from Woodland High School Class of 1976. She worked many jobs over the years as a CNA at Barnard’s Nursing Home, Taxi Driver, babysitting, selling Avon, cashier at Burger King and Shop N Save, but her favorite was at the Calais Veterinary Clinic in Calais where she worked for 10 years until she had to get done due to her battle with cancer. Karen was a member of the Peoples United Methodist Church in Baileyville and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #03 of Calais. Karen is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 3 years, Brian Church; one son, Brent Martin & Sally Strand of Minnesota; two daughters, Monica and Heather Martin of Baileyville; a grandson J.D. McLaughlin of Baileyville; her mother, Avis McIntyre; a brother, Glenn Martin; two sisters, Janet Casey & Stephen Johnson and Nancy & Stephen Lincoln; five nephews, Adam & Chad Casey and Stevie, Ryan & Damon Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Laura Lee Martin; long time friend and sister-in-law Sandra Merritt, all of Baileyville; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and a special friend and part of the family, Debbie (Kneeland) Poulzun of Connecticut. Karen was predeceased by her father Leroy Martin in 1991; her nephew Jason Martin in 2005; her maternal grandparents Walter & Reta King and paternal grandparents Alymer & Norma Martin. Karen will be truly missed by all her babies (dogs) Bandit, Prancer, Macey, Josie and Pixie; her rat and all her cats. She loved animals plus everybody else’s and they loved her. She will be deeply missed by her family whom she was so close with, all her many friends, classmates and clients from the Vet Clinic. Anyone that knew Karen loved her for her friendliness and caring ways. To have known her and loved her was a true blessing that many will hold forever in their hearts and memories. There will be a memorial/committal service for Karen on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Woodland Cemetery with Randy Clark and Pastor Bernie Hammond officiating and a remembrance ceremony by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #3 of Calais. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at The Peoples United Methodist Church in Baileyville. A gathering for family and friends will follow in the downstairs of the church.
