Julie Mae Mitchell, 53, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Calais Community Hospital with family by her side.  Julie was born in Machias on December 3, 1968, daughter of Sabatis Mitchell Sr. and Shirley (Stanley) Mitchell. 

Julie graduated from Shead High School, Class of 1987, and earned several associate degrees from Washington County Community College.  Julie was a kind and caring person, always wanting to help others in need.  This led her to a career in Social Work, initially with Peaceful Relations at Pleasant Point, Next Step in Machias, and later with the Pleasant Point Child Welfare Dept. where she was currently employed as the Acting Director.  Julie loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and who gave her the nicknames JuJu and Juge.

Julie was predeceased by her father Sabatis Mitchell Sr.; and two nieces, Keagan Stevenson and Allison Pulk.  Surviving are her mother Shirley Mitchell of Pleasant Point; sister Ann Mitchell and husband Marc Perez of Eastport; two brothers, Sabatis “Jiggs” Mitchell Jr of Perry, and Paul Mitchell and wife BJ of Perry; nieces and nephews, Lindsay Moore, Faith Ann Mitchell, and Sabatis “Sonny” Mitchell III and fiancé Ashli, all of Pleasant Point, Arika Mitchell of Eastport, Cameron Mitchell of Perry, and Nicole Mitchell of Perry; great-nieces and great-nephews, Hailie and husband Muwinesis, Navaeh, Rylyn, Giana, Makenzi, Sabatis “SJ” Mitchell IV; dear friends Ariane, Candi and Kristy; and numerous other friends.
