Obituary

With deep sorrow and much love, we mourn the passing of Julie Anne DelMonaco, a cherished daughter, mother, sister, and friend. Born on August 5, 1975, in Calais, Maine, she departed this life on January 23, 2026, at the age of 50. Julie loved life and her children. She found fulfillment through her daughters and, more recently, her granddaughter. Julie was an avid Red Sox and history enthusiast, with a particular interest in New England history. She also loved to travel and meet new people whenever she could. She enriched the local community as an educator. Julie had a Masters in education and education leadership from St. Joseph's College of Maine. She then went on to work at day treatment in Calais. Later, she was a special education teacher at Calais Elementary School. Once unable to work, she spent her days with family and her three girls, Lena, Hannah, and Eliana. Julie was predeceased by her grandfather, Nicholas DelMonaco Sr.; and her grandparents, Louise and Joe Kelley. She is survived by her parents, Mary and Tom DelMonaco; daughters, Lena Gadway and fiancé Dalton, and Hannah Gadway and partner Anthony; her granddaughter and pride & joy, Eliana Surles; sisters, Jessie and partner Dan, and Katie and husband Glen; nieces Brooke and Mia; nephew Mackenzie; and her "other mother" and grandmother, Geraldine DelMonaco. A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Following the celebration will be a gathering TBD . We invite you to share your memories, stories, and photos of Julie on her memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com
