Joseph Benjamin Neptune Obituary (1962 - 2021)

Sipayik and Indian Township – Joseph Benjamin Neptune, 59, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 19, 2021 at his home in Indian Township. Joseph was born in Princeton on September 11, 1962, son of Benjamin and Estelle (Lola) Neptune. Joseph attended Lee Academy and graduated from Calais High School. He started working at the Woodland Mill until enlisting in the US Army. Following his service, Joseph returned home and worked as a carpenter for the Passamaquoddy Home Inc. He studied building construction at Washington County Vocational Technical Institute and earned his CDL at Northeast Technical Institute. Joseph worked as a carpenter for the Pleasant Point Housing Authority, Newell Construction, and various other building and bridge construction companies throughout New England. Joseph was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the many seasonal activities such as hunting, elver fishing, kayaking and skiing. Joseph was predeceased by his father Benjamin; sister Susan Mancilla; nephew Javier Morin; and friend George Bassett. Surviving are his mother Estelle Neptune of Indian Township; five children, Zachary Neptune and wife Alma of Vallejo, CA, Courtney Newell of Freeport, Kylie Tompkins and husband Travis of Sipayik, Wiphun Neptune of Indian Township, and Ntusis Neptune of Indian Township; five grandchildren, Kloe, Zoe, Naiya, Lovella and Danaeh; two sisters, Beverly Champagne and husband Tom of Perry, and Christina Morin and husband Jose of TX; three brothers, Horace Neptune and companion Tanya Brown of Princeton, Ernest Neptune and wife Melissa of Sipayik, and Benjamin Neptune of Princeton; nephew Charles Neptune and wife Liane of Millbury, MA; nephew and Godchild Nakoma Polches; special friend and former wife Rena Newell of Sipayik; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends including Tony Clement, Keith Moore, Serge Newell and Kirk Meader. Visiting hours will begin 12 noon Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Elderly Meal Site, Sipayik, until 9 a.m. Thursday, December 23. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021 by Father Brad Morin at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais Ave, Calais. Burial will follow with military honors in the Pleasant Point Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
