Joline Claudette Thornton, 84, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Joline was born in Lewiston on February 23, 1939, daughter of Albert and Albertha (Plourde) Leclair.
Joline worked as a cook for various restaurants in Connecticut and on March 17, 1963, she married Luther Thornton. She became a field boss in the blueberry fields, operated Gold Star Wreath Factory, and eventually the family owned and operated Crawford Evergreen wreath factory. Joline was a people person and stayed active in her community. She was a volunteer in the Alexander Elementary School library, served on the Crawford School Board for 22 years, and served as the director for the WAVE Program in Washington County. Joline enjoyed playing bingo, scratch tickets, puzzles, and helping others. She was a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Joline was predeceased by her husband Luther Thornton Sr. Surviving are her three children, Michael McKeown and wife Linda of Baileyville, Luther Thornton Jr. and wife Dorothy of Liberty, and Susan Wallace and husband Randy of Crawford; six grandchildren, Douglas McKeown of Germany, Michael Moody of Liberty, Shanna Haywood and husband Scott of Waterville, Amanda Thornton of Searsmont, Travis Wallace and wife Marissa of Dedham, and Christopher Wallace and wife Chelsie of Calais; numerous great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Abigail and Jennifer.
