Joel Paul Mahar
April 30, 1982 - November 4, 2026
Joel Paul Mahar passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2026. Joel was born on April 30, 1982 at Calais Regional Hospital to Paul and Carolyn (Mills) Mahar. He spent an idyllic childhood in Dennysville surrounded by family and friends. He enrolled in Edmunds Consolidated Elementary School, joined the local Boy Scout troop, and attended the Dennysville Edmunds Congregational Church Sunday School.
As a youngster Joel loved the outdoors. On any given day depending on the season, he could be found with is father, mother, or uncle with a fishing pole in hand on the banks of a brook, in a canoe, or even in a motor boat in the Atlantic Ocean. He liked nothing better than traipsing through the woods with leaves underfoot or snow on the ground hunting birds or deer.
By the time he was ready to start high school, his love of fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and ATVing was well established. He took advantage of the many opportunities offered at Washington Academy including building his own canoe and accepting the position of computerized lighting technician for the drama club.
After graduating from Washington Academy in 2000, Joel decided to pursue a career in computers. He chose to enroll in the Computer Aided Drafting course offered at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor. At that time, housing was not easy to come by so he opted to share an apartment with his cousin, Sarah. They were able to get Down East often. Joel was eager to tune-up his snowmobile or ATV and organize his fishing and hunting gear.
After completing his college studies, Joel accepted a position at Holden Cabinet later moving on to JSI Industries. He used his skills to design numerous items including the kiosks found in many local establishments.
Joel is survived by his parents Paul and Carolyn Mahar, aunts and uncles Marilyn and Mark Leighton, Ruth and Rick Chaffey, and Kim Bridges. He is also survived by his cousins, Timothy, Matthew, and Christopher Flower; Rachel Goodwin, Brian Jones; Allen, Michael, and Jeffery Leighton; Sarah Jordan and many others.
Joel was predeceased by his devoted grandparents Junius and Rachel (Clark) Mills, and Carl and Jean (Dudley) Mahar; aunts Deborah Flower and Cathy Stevens; uncles Christopher Mills and Brian Jones, and James Flower.
Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home for the graveside service being held at the Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke, on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 11 a.m.
Donations in Joel's memory may be given to the Dennysville Edmunds Congregational Church, c/o Linda Seely - Treasurer, 570 S. Edmunds Road, Edmunds, ME 04628. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.MaysFuneralHome.com
