Obituary

Jody Lee Dyer, 63, passed away on October 17, 2026, at Calais Community Hospital following a battle with cancer that began in July. Born January 20, 1963, he was the son of Robert and Norma (Wright) Dyer.

Jody was a friendly, outgoing man who loved his communities of Vanceboro and Lambert Lake. A true social butterfly, he enjoyed visiting with friends, catching up on local happenings, and rarely passing up an opportunity for a good conversation. He was happiest surrounded by family and friends or out in the woods, especially during moose and deer hunting seasons.

Jody leaves behind his beloved wife, Kim Dyer, whom he married on Valentine's Day in 2019; daughters, Ashley Irish and husband Chris, and Katie Dyer and significant other Garrett Grass; His mother, Norma Dyer; and five grandchildren, Jameson, Evelyn, Harrison, Alaina, and Violet. He is also survived by his siblings, Connie Folland and husband George, better known as "Squid," Cindy Phelps and husband John, Ricky Dyer, Robby Dyer, Jamie Dyer and wife Kimberley, and Joel Dyer; mother-in-law, Nancy Smith; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and dear friends, Walt and Esther Durgin, and Ray and Teresa Hanson. Also missing Jody are his three cats, Sootie, Smudge, and Blaze - who may or may not have been the favorite.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert Dyer; sister-in-law, Katherine; father-in-law, Roger Smith; nephew, Donald Phelps; and special friends, Davy Grass, Myke Phelps, and Jeff Monk.

A community celebration of Jody's life will be held Sunday, November 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vanceboro Community Center, with a potluck-style lunch. And why a Sunday? Because everyone knows that even Jody wouldn't show up for his own service if it were held on a hunting day in November!
