Obituary

Joann Marie Sappier, 63, of Baileyville, ME, passed away on July 25, 2026, at her daughter's home in Baring, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on May 20, 1963, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Thomas and Barbara (Daniels) Sappier.

A proud member of the Maliseet Nation, Joann's educational journey began at Southern Victoria High School in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, where she graduated in 1981. She continued her pursuit of knowledge by earning her C.N.A. and two associate degrees from Washington County Community College in Accounting and Medical Office Technology. Over the years, she contributed to her community through various roles, including her positions at Downeast Credit Union and EdTech for Indian Township Elementary School, and served as a manager in the automotive section at the Calais Walmart. Additionally, Joann was a gifted seasonal wreath maker.

Joann was an active member of the Spednic Club in Baileyville and found joy in bowling, darts, crafts, gardening, and interior decorating. However, her greatest delight came from being a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was her everything, and she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two beloved brothers, Timmy and Tony Sappier. Joann leaves behind her two children, Tasheena Fitzsimmons and husband John of Baring Plt, ME, and Dana Newell of Perth-Andover, NB; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Newell, Jayden Fitzsimmons, and Keagen Dinsmore; a great-granddaughter, Iyla-Renee Flick; a brother, Thomas Sappier, and companion Natalie Plourde of Windham, ME; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved feline companion, Eddie.

Joann's family will hold a graveside service at the Calais Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026 to celebrate her life and the love she shared with those around her. The service will honor her memory and the impact she had on everyone she met. Arrangements are being made by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Friends and family are invited to share their condolences, memories, and photos at www.MaysFuneralHome.com, as we come together to remember the remarkable life of Joann Marie Sappier-a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
