Jennie I. Ganong, 88, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Avita of Brunswick (exactly five months after her husband Gordon). Born on March 17, 1937, in Eastport, Maine, Jennie was a radiant beam of light who brought joy, warmth, and kindness to all who knew her. The beloved daughter of Horace and Doris (Raye) Johnson.
In November 1956, Jennie married the love of her life, Gordon Ganong, in Portland, Maine. They returned to Washington County in 1958 where Jennie raised their family. Jennie, alongside Gordon, owned and operated Ganong Poultry Farm for over 30 years, and Ganong Trucking for over 20 years. Her industrious spirit and dedication were a testament to her character and the love she had for her family. Not to rest on her laurels she began her career at Federal Marine Terminals, serving for 25 years before retiring in 2012.
Jennie was a woman of many passions. She loved the great outdoors and enjoyed hiking, travelling, and cross-country skiing. Above all else, time spent with her family was her greatest joy. Jennie had a zest for life that was both infectious and inspiring, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Jennie is survived by her four children, Julie Ganong and husband Alan Mons of Byfield, MA, Gordon Ganong of Windham, Brian Ganong and wife Margaret of Lisbon Falls, and Craig Ganong of Clearwater, FL; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nephews, Howard W. Johnson and Rowland Johnson of Eastport. The family acknowledges Elinor Blanch for her 80+ years of love, support and friendship of Jennie, they were "true buddies."
Jennie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Ganong; a grandson, Justin Rose Ganong; and her brother, Howard V. Johnson.
Arrangements are being handled by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A combined Gordon + Jennie Celebration of Life Open House is planned for September 20th from1-4; at Rossport by the Sea, Quoddy Village, Eastport, ME.
