Janet M. Wooding, 98, died on January 14, 2025 at Cardiff, Wales. She was born in Portsmouth, England on December 25, 1926 to the late John and Phyllis (Larner) Caws. She was raised in Leicester, England.
After completing high school and teacher training college, she taught for seven years in Leicester, England, before emigrating to Canada in 1953 to join her future husband, P.J. Wooding who had preceded her to Canada by four months. They were married at St. Aime Church in Asbestos, Quebec on June 13,1953. After four years they moved to Pittsburgh, PA finally settling in New Jersey where they raised their family. Janet returned to teaching when their youngest daughter started school, finally retiring in 1994. In 2003, she and P.J. retired to Meddybemps, Maine. Playing the organ, gardening, and enjoying nature were her favorite activities among many others.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband P.J., her sister, Jennifer, and brother, David. She is survived by five daughters, fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Peter, and numerous nieces and nephews. She spent her last years with her family, living with daughter Martha and her husband Kevin in Salem, South Carolina, before returning to her native Britain where she lived with her daughter Anne, also supported by daughters Ruth, Susan and Clare. She died peacefully at home and was surrounded by all generations of her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church, 31 Calais Ave, Calais. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
