Ida A. Kneeland

Baileyville

Ida Ann Kneeland, 87, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Calais Community Hospital surrounded by her family.  Ida was born in St. Stephen, N.B., on April 12, 1937, daughter of Arthur and Viola (Trecartin) Barnard.

 

Ida attended schools in Baileyville, and later in life earned her diploma at Woodland High School.  On October 23, 1952, she married Norman Kneeland in Baileyville.  Ida volunteered for several years as a teacher’s aide at Woodland Elementary School.  Ida’s faith was important to her.  She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary and was a Communicant of St. James the Greater in Baileyville, and after moving to Calais, Immaculate Conception Church.  She enjoyed going for walks, crocheting, reading, and cooking.  Above all, family meant the world to Ida.  She loved family gatherings and visits, especially from her grandchildren.  

 

In addition to her parents, Arthur and Viola Barnard, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Norman Kneeland; son-in-law Robert Amber; granddaughter Jennifer Kneeland; two sisters, Viola Moffitt and Ruth Williams; and her brothers, Arthur, Paul, Carroll, Phillip, and Francis.  Surviving are her six children, Dale Kneeland and wife Betsey of Topsham, Norman Kneeland and wife Ella of Baileyville, Cindy Bailey of Bangor, Bonny Slater and husband Andrew of Calais, Cheryl Amber of Baileyville, and David Kneeland of Calais; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Barnard and wife Nellie of Baileyville, and William Barnard and wife Margaret of Scarborough; sisters-in-law, Shirley Seavey of Calais, and Beatrice “Pat” Barnard of Calais; a dear friend of the family, Bradley Bailey;  and many nieces and nephews.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church, 31 Calais Ave, Calais.  Burial will take place at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
