Johnson

Sunday
American Legion Cobscook Post #59
Starts at 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gilbert Brian Johnson, 75, who departed this life on August 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 27, 1951, in Calais, ME, he was the son of Millard and Elda (Budd) Johnson.
Brian honorably served in the U.S. Army, where he worked with Honest John Rockets. After his service, he spent a brief time in Florida before returning to his beloved Maine, where he would go on to meet and fall in love with Doreen Greenlaw. They celebrated their life together when they married on March 22, 1974, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey filled with love and devotion.
For more than 20 years, Brian dedicated himself to the City of Eastport Public Works, making a profound impact on his community. He was also a proud member of the Eastport Fire Department. In his personal time, he found joy in playing hearts on the computer, following sports-especially those involving his children and grandchildren-and engaging in spirited games of chess. Brian was known for his quick wit and fondness for listening to Howie Carr. Most importantly, he was a loving family man who treasured moments spent with his grandchildren.
Brian leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Doreen Johnson; three children, Opal Seeley and her husband Craig of Pembroke, Brandi Mason and her husband Jason of East Machias, and Nicholas Johnson and his wife Tahnee of Perry. He also found immense joy in being a grandfather to eight grandchildren: Niomi, Breanna, Samantha, Cassidy, Logan, Devon, Alan, and Myles, and was blessed to have 13 great-grandchildren. Brian is further survived by his siblings, Marlene Wilbur and her husband Ray, Teddy Johnson, and Donnie Johnson; sister-in-law Ellie Greenlaw; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Lucky, alongside his pet rabbit, Salem.
A celebration of Brian's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the American Legion Cobscook Post #59 Hall, 92 Front St., Pembroke. During this time, friends and family will come together to honor the remarkable life that Brian lived and the love he shared with all who knew him.
