Calais

Gertrude Yvonne Lunn, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 3, 2023.  Gertie was born in Baileyville on August 19, 1936, daughter of Churchill and Alice (Scovil) Wallace.

Gertie was raised in Baileyville where she attended the Woodland schools.  She began working at the M.H. Fishman Store, the local blueberry factory, and as a housekeeper for the Stable Inn, currently known as the Calais Motor Inn.  Gertie eventually started her career as a cook with the Airline Restaurant until her retirement.

Gertie loved baking and was known for her “famous” crème puffs.  She took great pride in teaching her children to cook and bake.  In her younger years, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting.  In the last seven years, Gertie became adventurous and took her first motorcycle and four-wheeler ride, enjoyed watching stock car racing, and even attended a Kid Rock concert.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by seven siblings; a son-in-law Richard Lord; and a brother-in-law James Lunn.  Surviving Mama Gertie are her four children, Jean Lee and husband William, Margaret Perkins and husband David, Tommy Lunn and wife Ella, and Ruth Lord; her “chosen” children, Ken and Lois Niles, Troy “Bubba” Lee, and Big Neal; eleven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren who all affectionately called her Nanny Gert; a brother Ron Wallace and wife Annette; sister-in-law Georgena Lunn; many nieces and nephews; and her fur babies, Carley, Bumble, and Sage.

A Celebration of Gertie’s Life will be held 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Crumbs Café, 405 Main St., Calais.  A private burial will take place at a later date.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
