Obituary

George E. Seidel, 78, passed away on January 26, 2026. George was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, on March 6, 1947, son of George and Flossie (Alexander) Seidel. He was a loving husband of 53 years to his wife Jackie, and a devoted father to his son Christopher. Watching Christopher grow into an amazing son and father, filled his heart with love and pride. Growing up on his grandparent's farm in East St. Louis, Illinois, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy "to see the world". He was deployed on the aircraft carrier Saratoga and the U.S.S. Wasp, and during the Vietnam War, the U.S.S. Waldron and five other ships. He was stationed in Virginia, Florida, Connecticut, Brooklyn, and Long Island, NY. George retired after 20 years of active duty as a BTC Chief Petty Officer at the Naval Submarine Support Facility in New London, Connecticut. Admiral Zumalt allowed beards and neat hair in the 70's, hence his picture. He un-retired and returned to the workforce. With his military experience, he worked in numerous power plants throughout Maine, specifically the plant in Jonesboro, Maine. George and his family moved to Cooper where they enjoyed many years of happy, clean fresh air and country life. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks, family outings to New Hampshire, hanging out with his dog "Betty Boo", and rock 'n' rolling in his Toyota pickup truck. After 8 years on dialysis, his heart decided to rest. He was predeceased by his parents, George O. and Flossie Seidel, and his grandparents Ezra and Dovie Seidel. George is survived by his wife Jackie, son Christopher, daughter-in-law Deanna, and grandsons Noah and Ryan. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. We invite all who knew George to share their fondest memories and upload photos to his memorial page at www.MaysFuneralHome.com.
